A ‘Smiley’ win for Frieda

Congratulations to our fabulous letterer Frieda Ruh, who has won three awards!

‘Sunny Sounds’,  Frieda’s stunning piece made for Creative Review and Smiley Company has picked up both an Applied Arts Illustration Award and won Silver place in the Indigo Awards 2022.

The brief: Artists were asked to create work for every decade of the iconic brand's existence. With the 80's as her era, Frieda created something that was bright and bold to personify this artistic period. "It was really fun to dive into that era and come up with all the references for that time", she says.

‘Life is Good’, Frieda’s fab lettering project envisioning a future utopia and commissioned by Alice Made This, also won Gold place in the Indigo Awards for Lettering.

Frieda says, ‘my take on the theme was to be happy with what you’ve achieved so far. We are constantly evolving and what was once our future is soon our past... for me I really like to put the focus on positivity, being proud and seeing your own worth. A large part of the profits goes to the AMT Youth Programme (Supporting 16 -18 year old young people in South East London, to get experience, opportunities and support in the creative industries.’
